I’ve always loved the seas. They were so vast and beautiful. They linked all the land masses in the world and yet they were free. No one could ever claim the seas no matter how much our weak government tries. Some call prostitution the oldest profession then I must have the second oldest. I am a pirate; it is a booming industry with great cash results.

I can see the boat approaching us and it looks like a normal cargo ship. These are the easiest to hijack and the most profitable. We have hijacked numbers of them and have profited plenty. There were four of us we waited for the ship to stall and we on our little boats approached the ship. An alarm sounded that scared me at first, it was different actually being this close to a boat we had a plan I just had to follow it. The crew came out as a response to the alarm there were nineteen of them. We didn’t care that we were outnumbered we had weapons, guns. They would yield to our weapons. I could see the fear in their faces and it felt so good but where was the captain? Maybe he was somewhere alerting the world and if he was then that was great and just what I wanted. This as I had noticed was an American ship and its crew just like typical Americans was willing to fight.

My friend screamed as they used what ever they could to attack us. They wanted a fight and we were more than willing to give them a fight. America is a very rich country and we would get a huge ransom from them. The captain had finally arrived and had said something to the crew. He had to have said something because they had grabbed one of my friends and ran into one room. The three of us that were left did not know what to do and then one of my friends suggested that we should grab the captain. We were mad we were not going to let them take out friend so easily. We stayed like this for a few days until the crew could not take it and were willing to make a deal with us. They were willing to exchange our friend for their captain. They gave our friend up first but there was no way we were letting them get the captain. They fought us even more and more. We couldn’t take it so we sought refuge in a life boat and there we stayed for days until the boat ran out of gas.

Two million dollars was the price that we had set for his head. We had seen this happen countless times. We ask and they give.  When they give we will leave and they can have their boat and their crew back unharmed. The four of us will be the richest men around and we would live like kings. This will all be possible by making our money off of people who dare violate our rich shores. Just because our country’s government does not require laws does not mean that we will not enforce our own laws.

Night had fallen and we were stuck out there. I turned to my friend and asked him about the captain that we had taken hostage. He told me that he had jumped off the boat and tried to swim to his American friends. Another of my friends had sounded the pistol and helped him back up onto the boat. We had other pirate friends that had hijacked a larger ship and were coming to let us on the ship. We were surrounded by the Americans; they were trying to get us to let the man go so there was no need to go back to the ship from where we started. Our friends just had to pull through. We all needed this money.

Just then I saw my friend drop dead it was a clean shot to the head. The second of my friends followed. I took cover someone was shooting. I heard the third body drop and then footsteps above me. They were untying the captain. I had nowhere to run. They had surrounded me with their weapons drawn. Right then I knew what it felt like to be a hostage.

I had to write a story based on a current event. So I picked the pirate story that was in the news for sometime. I wanted to do this from the perspective of the one surviving pirate.
